Back in 2010, we didn’t know who Team PokerStars Pro “Isildur1″ was (ok, we did, but we didn’t have confirmation just yet). We knew for certain he was an online poker phenom though. We also knew he was a newly minted Team PokerStars Pro who was going to face off in a series of SuperStar Showdowns pitting himself against top poker talents in lengthy heads-up online matches.
A year and a half ago, Isildur, better known now as Viktor Blom, took on his first Showdown opponent when he and Isaac “philivey2694″ Haxton took to the felt. In this first match, Haxton beat Blom out of $41,701. That money is going to look like small potatoes compared to what the two have in store this weekend though.
For their third SuperStar Showdown battle, Haxton and Blom are going to spar in a $1 million winner take all match. According to the PokerStars Blog, this Showdown is going to be a little different than the previous two matches. For starters, the previous bouts had a defined end point of 2,500 hands. Instead, the two will play one $200/$400 table for four hours once a day until one player has all the money.
The first match will get underway on Saturday March 31st t 1pm ET. Blom has never beaten Haxton in a Showdown match. He got close in the second bout, but Haxton rallied from a big deficit to take the match by just $5,000. For Blom, it is a chance at revenge. For Haxton, it is a chance to up his record to 3-0 against one of the toughest players in the world. For both, it is a shot at some serious cash. And, for fans, it is going to be a memorable match of heads-up poker that has the potential to provide several days of entertainment.
