Zynga Poker Might Be Getting Serious About Online Poker

Just a few weeks ago Zynga was the buzz of the poker world as they hosted their first Zynga PokerCon at the Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Now they’re the talk of the industry again with the announcement on Tuesday that they’ve acquired Market Zero – the company that owns PokerTableRatings.com. There’s an interesting twist in the press release from Zynga though:

“Please note that this acquisition leverages the knowledge and expertise of the team, and Zynga will not be operating MarketZero’s existing business.”

What Zynga did basically was buy the talented individuals running PTR. That group includes Gustavo Abdala, Amir Elaguizy, Nir Leibovich, Timothy Sullivan and Jason Wang. It’s not the first time they’ve acquired a company simply to get the talent. They recently purchased Floodgate Entertainment with the same motive.

Poker players using PTR will so absolutely no difference in the day-to-day operations of the site.

ChiliPoker Launches New Features Built Around Social Media

ChiliPoker.com has been trying hard to create a groundswell of buzz for the past couple of weeks and now we see why. On  Tuesday the online poker room announced the launch of ChiliConnect which will allow players to “share your results, connect with other players, challenge with sidebets, swap with friends and much more”.

The platform is built right into the ChiliPoker client and allows players to integrate their existing social media accounts, like Facebook and Twitter, with their play at the ChiliPoker.com tables. It also allows players to sell pieces of themselves and make side bets.

“Chilipoker has always been close to its players through a very strong customer care team and more lately through our successful European live event tour, the Chilipoker DeepStack Open (7 legs). Carefully listening to our players, we understood that online poker players wanted to enjoy the same experience as in land-based events. We decided to add this social experience online alongside a unique real money challenging system. More than ever, our mantra ‘Spice Up Your Game’ is true,” said Alexandre Dreyfus, ChiliPoker founder.

World Poker Tour Joins the High Roller Craze

It seems that the lure of big buy-in poker tournaments has found another buddy. After the $100,000 event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the $100,000 and $250,000 events at the Aussie Millions it seems that everybody wants to have their own version of the Onyx Cup. The World Poker Tour unveiled a $100,000 event that will take place at the Bellagio during the upcoming WPT Championship – that’s the one with the $25,000 buy-in.

“Hosting a hundred thousand dollar buy-in event within the WPT World Championship series means the world’s elite players have a chance to show their mettle as they battle for one of the year’s most coveted titles and one of the highest buy-in titles, all within a single week,” said Steve Heller, CEO of the World Poker Tour.

The tournament will run on May 18 & 19 which will be Day 5 & 6 of the WPT Championship. Highlights from the event will be shown during the WPT Championship broadcast later in the year.
